Earning money back has never been so easy. Several new apps act as a credit card and debit card booster, where you’ll link your card(s) and automatically be applied to cash back offers including several local restaurants and gas stations.
For example, you can link a Chase Sapphire Card or your Bank’s Debit Card, and if you use those applied cards through these apps, you’ll get Cash Back when you shop at the advertised areas on the app’s interface. It’s super easy and straightforward, and it’s almost like getting Free Money!
In this review, we’re going to look at two of the most innovative linking apps DOSH and Drop. We’ll discuss how they work, and how you could earn money back automatically without lifting a finger!
But First, What is Cash Back?
Cash Back is often given out by specific retailers and merchants so that you remain loyal to that particular store.
Cash Back occurs when you shop or dine at a specific place, pay your bill, and earn advertised the money back.
DOSH vs Drop
What exactly is the Dosh app? Dosh will link your card and give you money back for shopping…it’s that simple. It’s a must-have app, and I’m not going to fill your precious time with fluff and other lengthy explanations. It’s an app you should have in your wallet because it’s so darn easy to use. I am not bullshitting you.
Here’s how Dosh works:
- Link a Credit or Debit Card
- Look at the Dashboard
- Find Stores with Different Cash Back Rates
- If You Shop at One or All of these Stores You Get That Money Back
- You Must Use the App-Linked Credit or Debit Card
Unlike other Cash Back websites like Ebates or TopCashBack, the Dosh app is a mobile app only. We’ve made it super easy to find the app if you visit the button below. Just enter in your SMS number, and they’ll provide you with a link that will send you to the right app store, whether that’s iOS or Android!
Dosh Hack Incoming!! You can sign up using any Android or iOS Device…whether that’s a tablet or phone. Because you are entered into these offers automatically, you don’t necessarily have to check the app often to receive money.
How to Sign Up with Dosh
To sign up correctly, you’ll need these:
- A Valid Email Address
- Telephone Number
- A Real Debit Card (Try These!)
- A Real Credit Card (Try This One!)
- Android Device or Apple iOS Device
- PayPal Account
Please note that once you’ve successfully linked a credit or debit card, you’ll need to use that card that’s connected to the app to receive the cash back!
Getting Money from Dosh (Visual Guide)
It’s pretty easy getting money from Dosh. Below we’ve received quite a bit of money just by applying our card to the account!
From the Dashboard (below screenshot) you’ll see the Cash Back rates of local places…including Mobil!
Yes, you can fill up your gas tank and get money back on top of what you receive from a cash back credit card!!
Dosh also carries Cash Back for Travel reservations, but we’ll admit they aren’t great deals.
You might also note they offer Online Cash Back; sadly, we don’t recommend these two parts of the app.
You’ll need at least 25 dollars to use PayPal to Cashout. And if you are a business, you’ll be required to fill out proper tax forms for documentation purposes!
Most Common Question: “Is Dosh Safe and Secure?”
We think it’s safe enough to warrant a download and usage. The risk is minimal, and you’ll likely gain approximately $100 per year if you go to several restaurants or offers per year. For those interested, general security info is displayed below:
Whenever I see 256-bit encryption, I feel safe…because it sounds safe. Seriously, it seems like there’s a computer genius sitting behind keyboard fending off scammers and what not. If you feel the app isn’t for your, or just don’t feel safe…that’s ok. Although we’d love for the app to have a delete button somewhere (seems nice to have), you can reach out to the support team through the app under the “support and help” section.
Is Dosh Legit or a Scam?
Probably my least favorite thing to type into this website. Most bloggers do this for keyword stuffing and Google recognition so an article like this will rank higher. This app isn’t a scam, and it’s legit. It’s a real company that hires real people in Austin, Texas.NONE OF THE APPS I WRITE ABOUT ARE SCAMS!
Dosh Referral System
You can make a little Dosh money by referring people to the app through your user Dashboard. Lots of Facebook groups try to find out how to cheat Dosh, but in fact, it’s a simple referral system with loads of fraud prevention…our advice is not to try to cheat or hack the Dosh app through Referring fake friends. In most cases, the Dosh app referral reward is just $5, but during peak seasons we’ve seen Dosh raise this to $10.
Make Sure Your Referrals Link Their Credit Cards to Earn Money!
More Card Linking Alternatives
There are indeed several alternatives where you can link your credit card. Again, no filler content here as I’ve written about them already:
- Swagbucks Local
- Groupon Plus
Can You Use Ebates or Other Alternatives and Dosh together? Yes, you can! Each app is responsible for paying you, although it’s possible that one app will have Terms and Conditions that will negate a competitor’s Cash Back.
Yelp, the popular review platform, has introduced Yelp Cash Back, a newer service where you can easily link your credit or debit card and get cashback specific restaurants. Be sure to type into the local search “cash back” to show options where cash back is provided!
The options Swagbucks, Groupon and Yelp, work the same way since they use the technology from a company called Empyr. These guys are the pioneers of the Online to Offline eCommerce world, and if you think about it, the technology to able to link these two commerce worlds is impressive!
Earn More with Drop
Like Dosh Cash, a similar rewarding app, the Drop app is found reasonably quickly on the app stores of both Android and iOS.
1: Downloading the App
We’ve conveniently partnered up with the Drop app, so once you head to the link here, you’ll be on the official Drop app website. They’ll ask for a phone number, don’t worry they don’t call, it’s a text containing the app store location of the app.
2: Signing Up
Like most apps, you’ll need a primary email and password to access the dashboard of Drop to continue. It’s easy because you enter in your email…and password…and yeah that’s about it.Make sure to verify your email to utilize the service fully!!
3: Picking Your Offers (5)
Drop is unique in the way you can select a few primary restaurants and shopping places where you often shop. When you choose the five places, they’ll lock into place, and you’ll earn rewards for those stores indefinitely.
Choose the right offers because we haven’t found an easy way to replace these! Although other offers come with the app, the stores you select should be the ones you go to the most!!
Here are the stores we found:
- Best Buy
- The Body Shop
4: Link Your Cards!
It sounds pretty straightforward, but this is the part where most people forget to utilize. For the Drop app to work, you’ll need to head over to the account settings and enter in the card in which you think you’ll use to shop with the store selections above.
For example, let’s say you link an American Express card, and shop at Sephora. If you’ve successfully connected your card through the Drop app, once you’ve purchased something from Sephora, you’ll earn points inside the Drop app.
Adding multiple cards is a good idea so that you might not miss a rewards possibility.
5: But wait! What About Security!!
The card linking stage is where people tend to look back and say, “Hmmm. I dunno, I’m not so sure about this part.” Because people are a bit weary when it comes to whipping out a Credit or Debit card for security reasons, it’s one of those pain points Drop and other card linking apps have to deal with. We believe that the app is perfectly safe to use, and the reward isby fargreater than the risk here!
For those who are borderline cautious about adding an app like this and linking it to a credit card, be sure that only transactional history is exchanged with Drop’s partners, any other security or privacy concerns should be alleviated when you hear that a company called Plaid backs the protection.
Plaid works with major banks including Bank of America, Chase, Wells Fargo, and several others in addition to working with other financial products like Robinhood and Mint. So, if you already have those within your reach, you shouldn’t have to worry.
Earning Points With Drop
If you are familiar with cash back credit cards like the AMEX Everday Rewards card, then you’d know that you can shop at many locations and earn a little back in the form of money back. Cashback rates vary depending on the actual credit card themselves. For example, you can refill your tank at a Shell Gas Station for $20.00, and your cash back rate for Gas Fill-Ups is 1% you’ll get back 0.20c. Sure this doesn’t seem to be a ton of money, but it’s free money where otherwise you would not have received if you had utilized a debit card or cash.
Now, on the other hand, Drop apps like an extension of Cashback rewards in a sense by giving you rewards in the form of points. When you shop at one of your selected stores (remember step 3?), you’ll earn points when you spend on a Drop app linked card.Drop isn't a credit card, but an app where it can tell if you've spent money at specific locations where they reward you with points. For example, if you go to Chipotle you can earn 15 points for every dollar you spend if you have appropriately linked a card to the app!Click To Tweet
Redeeming Points for Rewards
Although Drop doesn’t give out money or cash back, you can redeem points for gift cards. Because it’s so easy to attain so many points over time, you’ll be redeeming gift cards in no time!
Tip: Make sure to select your most used shops and restaurants so that you accumulate points faster!!
Because you’ll be accumulating points based on these offers and their transactions you’ll then be able to redeem once you’ve hit at least 5,000 points.
Once you’ve reached this plateau, you can head over to the redeeming portion of the app (seen on the picture above on the bottom right corner).
You’ll see Starbucks gift cards ($5) for 5,000 points, and several other options. Just select the offer you’d like to redeem, and if you have enough points you’ll then be sent the digital gift card via the app within minutes!
Our Experience with Drop
While it seems like a no-brainer to use this kind of app, many people shy away from it due to concerns of both privacy and security. With the backing of Plaid, a significant force in the Fintech world, it’s still a safe app to use, and your information is mostly reliable.
We’ve been using the app for close to a year now, and we’ve redeemed several Starbucks gift cards for Free Drinks and Lattes mainly for the price of being ourselves.
It wasn’t all too uncommon for me to check back on the app several months later, rather than every day since once you linked the card, you technically don’t need to do anything else to earn points. However, Drop has recently been trying to get people to use it more, select additional offers and now…play games that help earn rewards!
Earn with Drop Games
Remember the classic Snake game? You know the one where you eat bits and your Snake will grow as long as you don’t run into yourself? Here’s what Drop does:
- It’s Called Supercharge
- You Are the Snake
- Eat Bits, Which Is One Drop Point
- Eat More Bits and Earn Bonus Drop Points!
- You Have 3 Lives to Play
Pretty cool! Plus Drop also has contests where all you have to do is open the app and hit “Enter” to be in sweepstakes for more points.
Dosh is the winner! (With a one point margin)
