With all of the internetin-security these days, it’s nice to be protected from potential hackers, trackers, and such. Installing Virus software is one way of doing this, although it dramatically slows down your computer and device, and most companies have already preloaded your device with excellent anti-virus software installed. Another way to protect your identity and internet usage is to look into a Virtual Private Network or VPN for short.
What Is a Virtual Private Network (VPN)
VPNs essentially reroute your IP address, or your internet location (in lamens terms), to another location. No, this does not mean you will be billed from Comcast or RCN at a different site, all this means is that your current internet connection is rerouted for more privacy.
Tip: You can reroute via VPN to other countries even, to access certain products like NFL Gameday (A European version of the Sunday Ticket) or Netflix Europe.
Why Would I Need a VPN?
VPNs are a great way to avoid ad specific cookies and trackers so that your information won’t be saved. If you think about it, all of the ads these days track your location, in addition to other actions. By rerouting via a VPN, your location would be void in these ads, and therefore your position isn’t tracked for commercials and other media. Another reason people choose to utilize VPNs is that your internet usage, for business and personal use is way more private by using a VPN.
Tracking and browsing history would no longer be valid or stored through an internet provider like Comcast or Verizon either!
How to Use a VPN
VPNs are a premium service. Therefore there’s a good chance you’ll have to buy into a company’s offer. There are plenty of VPN services that are 100% legal to use! The gist of the services remain the same:
- You sign up with a service
- You download the app on all of your applicable internet-ready devices (i.e., Cell, PC, Mac)
- Run the VPN app that is given to you by the service
- Turn it on
- The Internet is then re-routed elsewhere!
Free VPN from Mozilla FireFox
Just recently announced, the popular browser, FireFox, has added FREE VPN capability!

Top Premium VPN Services
For the most part, these VPN services are subscription based (surprise!), so you’ll need to pay either a monthly or annual price to start using them. Some might offer a Free Trial as well. We’ve partnered up with a few great products that will undoubtedly help you get started:
- NordVPN (Price: $108 for three years)
- Surfshark (Price: $84 for 2 Years)
- HotSpot Shield (Price: $72 for 2 Years)
So you may be wondering, if Firefox has the service do you need a subscription one? Well, depending on what you do outside of internet browsing you still should consider it. For example, for any apps or services that require internet that is not utilizing the Firefox browser, we simply cannot say if your connection is 100% safe.
That’s All Folks
That’s pretty much all you need to know about this technology. VPNs increase privacy through an internet connection, so if that’s valuable to you, then a VPN should be included in your shopping list.
