When it comes to saving money, there’s a lot of advice out there. The old adage is, a Penny Saved is a Penny Earned. It’s true when you think about it, for those who tend to spend money on things they don’t need they’ll end up working to live.
You can work an 8-hour shift and earn maybe $200 a day, but if you spend that $200 on things that don’t help you in the long run, you’ll find yourself in a hole.
We’re not against spending money though. You have to pay rent, put food on the table, and occasionally go out on a date with your partner.
Here are some ways you can implement new ways to save!

6: DIY Pool Maintenance
It’s always summer in places like Florida, so if you have a pool above or underground in your backyard, you are probably going to use the pool often. Barbecues and pool parties are a fun thing to plan unless you have trouble keeping your pool clean.
Hiring a Pool Cleaner from a place like Thumbtack is always a good option. Sometimes, it’s easier to pay someone then frequent the pool supply shop like Pinch A Penny. Pool Supplies and Cleaning should cost you around $20-$100 a month depending on how big your pool is. If you have a Pool Screen, that helps, but according to PoolPricer.com, which could cost you up to $10,000 for installation.
Bugs, Residue, and other annoyances are bound to get into the pool water. That being said there are ways to save when cleaning and maintaining your pool.
Use Amazon and eBay
For many, pool supply shopping still something that homeowners of pools will do in person. Going to the pool supply store is probably close by and convenient for quick fixes. But, being a local brick and mortar, you know that online shopping is still the more affordable and wallet-friendly way to buy anything these days. Pool Supplies are no different. Because there are no storage, or overhead to hosting products online, online shopping is the best place to find any product when you spend less shopping online. Heck, even Groceries are now being phased into an online business model!
Do Your Pool Cleaning
Mentioned before, you could hire a pool cleaner if you don’t have the time to clean your pools. It’s a good idea to keep a pool cleaned and maintained not only for a good home environment but your home resale value. Any crack in the surface of the pool could cost you thousands, so stay on top of your pool maintenance! A pool cleaner can be scheduled once to four times a month and still be somewhat affordable. We’ve seen ones from $75-$150 per month. Although you can do most of the pool work for free like:
- Using a Pool Skimmer
- Installing Pool Vacuums
- Placing the water and chlorine tablets
These kinds of tasks you will be paying for when you hire a pool cleaner. One thing is for sure: Make sure your pool is clean before the party gets started
7: Stop Overspending on Your Newborn
Couples are excited when their first baby is born. One tends to overspend because there’s a rush of emotion involved. You will notice that as soon as your baby is born, every dollar will vanish. The urge to buy the best for the newborn will not fade, but it is better that you stay on budget.
Only Buy the Essentials
First, it is vital that you buy the essential items. A common mistake most of the parents make is they even purchase the products that they do not also need. To save your money here are the only things that you should invest in:
- Milk formula
- Breast pump (Some Insurances Cover this)
- Car seat
Make sure that you only invest in the best quality products because that is the only way you will not have to spend in the same items again.
Look for Coupons and Samples
You should look for deals that will allow you to use the coupons that you have already used. In case they are not providing coupon options, you should ask for samples. Remember that some items should be tested before you can invest in them. Getting the samples is the best approach because it will help you to save a decent amount of money. There are chances that you may only need the sample, so you will not have to invest in the whole product.
Here are some neat baby sample websites:
When you are shopping online, there are several add-ons that you will have to deal with. If you get attracted to the add-ons, there are chances that you will waste a lot of money. The reason is that most of these offers are not even beneficial according to your condition.
Buy used items
A decent way of saving money is investing in used items. There are many baby products that you need, but only for the first few months. So it is better that you invest in the used products because it will help you to save a decent amount of money. As time passes, fashion will change, and you might not need the product ever again. Also when it comes to baby swings, carriers, and other expensive products, used items offer substantial discounts and you may even be able to haggle on a site like OfferUp.
8: Get Free Internet
Ask us 20 years ago what life would be without the internet, and it would be dramatically different than what would be the answer today. We depend on the web to keep us connected and up to date on what’s going on around us, even if it’s only a few feet away. The rising expense of having a phone with data comes at a steep price. Often, you’ll see carriers charging customers up to $200 per month for unlimited data!
One company is offering FREE Internet to ease your expenses.
What is FreedomPop?
A bold move by a company, FreedomPop, is providing Free Internet (data) along with talk and texting to new customers. If you have your device, you won’t pay a thing, but you will need a device, like an Android smartphone. A premium phone like the OnePlus 5t would be a great device to invest it, given its higher-end specs and camera detail.
What’s the catch?
The available free plan is one as follows:
100% Free Basic Plan – 500 texts, 200 minutes, and 500MB each month
For many, this plan is not large enough for those who are in constant need of data. Some even use 500MB of data within hours! However, if you are in a bind, or if you want an alternative plan, the Free Internet and Data plan that FreedomPop offers could be a great option!
Uses for a Free Data Plan
You can certainly find a use for free internet, even if it is capped at any rate. Here are some ways to utilize it:
- Business Phone (without using the internet)
- Secondary (backup) Phone Line at Home
- Family Line
- Secret Phone Line
Have a dual-sim phone?
You could seamlessly add a phone line, like the one FreedomPop offers, and have two plans, one at no cost!

Earny has found a way to make it easy for you to do this without having to call or go through service customer service lines.
I used to go with my Mom to Macy’s and show them receipts of past purchases within 30 days and they’d give us money back. It was a monthly thing we did to help save some money around the houses. Earny makes this type of stuff obsolete and makes our lives easier! – Earny User
How does it work?
- Link your primary email account, i.e., Gmail
- Earny will scan for recent receipts purchases
- Link your Amazon Account for further purchase scanning
- Add your Credit Card that comes with 30-90 days buyer protection
About those Credit Cards
You can certainly link ANY credit card to Earny and still get the price change refund available. A standard price change refund can vary from store to store, however. Amazon, for example, will allow seven days for a price change refund. This, however, is extended when you have an applicable credit card with purchase protection. Remember our favorite credit card, the Barclaycard Arrival Plus?
This one offers a whopping 120 Day Purchase Protection!
10: Easy Money Apps
Apps will continue to play an essential role in helping your overall financial situation. Whether it’s simple budgeting or fresh ways to save, the app list is growing. Try these amazingly simple and free apps to use that could net you some significant dollar bills.
Linking a credit card to an app is becoming the new wave of money hack and saving technology. All you do is connect your credit cards to an app, and you can be entered into Cash Back opportunities. For example, go to Denny’s and swipe your linked card and you can earn some money back when you pay for your meal! Here’s how DOSH works:
- Download the app and sign up via email
- Look through all of your local cash back opportunities (i.e., Dining and Hotel)
- Link the credit card that you use often or the one which will use these offers
- Shop at applicable places
- Earn Said Cash Back
It’s no secret that credit cards offer way more rewards than debit cards. Take advantage of it by essentially converting your Credit Card into a Debit Card with Debitize. Here’s how this one works:
- Sign Up via Email
- Link any credit card
- Link your bank account
- Any time you use your Credit Card – it will act as a debit and be deducted from your bank
- No Charges Whatsoever!
Much like DOSH, you can earn some money just by doing shopping locally and online. With the Drop app, you can link your card and earn points from Chipotle and more. These points can then be redeemed for gift cards for Starbucks, Dunkin’, and many more!
We’ve recently found out about an innovative, user-friendly, and utterly marvelous budgeting app called Swish. Digging into the app, what separates Swish from other competitors is its simplicity. Getting started is just as uncomplicated:
- Sign up via email
- Link your bank accounts (w/ 256-bit encryption for security)
- Set up your Bills
- Set up your Income
- Set your Saving Goal(s)
We dig the formula that Swish uses to give you the amount “left to spend today” and “free to spend this month.” Once you input your bills (expenses) and income (money coming into your account), you can set a specific savings goal.
11: Use Reddit
Many people spend hours upon hours on Facebook and Twitter without really being engaged or entertained. Meanwhile, Reddit offers a place not only for the community but for massive entertainment!
You’ll find categories on your favorite topics like Star Wars, for example, or Sewing. In each subcategory, or sub for short, you’ll find topics relative to that category. For example, in the Star Wars Sub, you’ll discover Reddit users writing about different aspects of the movie series. There are no limits on Reddit to what kind of categories exist, there are categories on strange topics like Weird, atReddit.com/r/Weird/.
You’ll note to get to a particular forum on the site you can do a Reddit search or enter the URL: Reddit.com + /r/ + the topic name. For this example, /r/ then “Weird” will bring you to the Weird topic at Reddit.com/r/weird
Reddit’s Most Interesting Sub? Answer: AskReddit
There is one entertaining part of Reddit that many still are unaware of, called AskReddit. This Sub is filled with funny, entertaining, creepy, and useful topics that Ask’s Reddit’s user’s input on the issues people are curious about. Here are a few examples:
Inside of the issues are written responses, and most of these are so compelling that you may be busy for hours finding out new information or intriguing gossip that keep you entertained. Keep in mind that some responses are not safe for work environments or NSFW abbreviation.
12: Thinking About College?
Higher education has become out of reach for many, giving many students pre and post-college degree loads of debt. Debt can carry a burden on yourself and family, and while higher education is likely a path to greener pastures, you should always weigh your options. One college is taking an alternative approach to student tuition.
Pay For Time Spent in School (Not Credits)
Typically a college will charge 3 or 4 credits per course, and each of these credits carries a price. A single credit could cost anywhere from $27 to $207, given a qualified student loan (SLH), so if you are considering heading back to school, you’ll have some calculations to do. If you are lucky, UCF Tuition (University of Central Florida) did not raise tuition costs, but many schools raise costs periodically.
If you are short on time, an online college offers an excellent way to take your time during the study, given the freedom you have taking classes on your own time. If for any reason you have time on your hands and would like to go back to college for a degree, you might want to consider Western Governors’ University.
A Radical Approach
WGU charges per term and has no limit on how many classes you take. Take as many courses as you would like at a given time, pass them of course, and graduate. By avoiding to pay per class, you’ll prevent charges that pile up. Worried about credentials? WGU has the all of the right credentials and is a popular choice amongst professionals, including nurses. Check out this forum and find out what the WGU experience was for a few nurses.
A decent choice if you are looking to get back into school. Interested in waiving that application fee? Use the code:NOWFREEwhen prompted.
About Student Loans…

Each of the blogs has their own story, mission, and goals, and getting to know each of the people behind them is a bonus. Some of the blogs we recommend for further reading or just an alternative to ours.

13: Buy Your Next Mattress Online
It’s no secret that the web is making the middle sales person extinct by making online shopping the easiest way to shop ever. One new entrant to the online marketplace is bedding. You can get your mattresses delivered through FedEx or UPS and have it arrive on your doorstep. Skip talking to the pesky salesperson, which by the way drives up the cost for those mattresses in the first place. Sure, we support small business and employment, but bedding should have seen this coming.
Before the Web’s Mattress Presence
Remember going shopping for a mattress in person? Typically, you’d show up to a Macy’s, or JCPenney and have to wait for a salesperson to show you the benefits of each available mattress in your budget. Sure, you may even still be using the bedding you purchased that day. After all, one significant advantage of (still) buying a mattress through a department store like that is the guarantees and warranties you may receive. With the emergence of the web’s mattress selections, you’ll find not only a better choice but higher quality.
You can’t try a mattress on your PC
Let’s face it; you can’t try clothes on through the computer monitor. It’s not the way things work! However, you can look to YouTube and other avenues for reviews of bedding for your information. Many times, these reviewers are experienced on all of the benefits that each mattress provides. Here are a few favorite mattress bloggers:
- Derek Hales of Sleepopolis.com
- Mattress Clarity
- Sleep Like the Dead
- The Sleep Judge
- Honest Mattress Reviews
These guys typically review not only mattresses, but blankets and pillows should you be interested in those as well.
Still not convinced? Most of the mattress companies offer FREE returns and pickup so trying out a mattress after your purchase them is one of the things these companies have made sure to include in your buying choice.
The Best Online Mattress Companies
So buying a mattress online is one you’ll have to make web reviews and snap judgment. You’ve probably heard or seen commercials for a few of the ones we’ll list below, but we’ll offer a brief benefit of each brand and why youmay want to try that brand.
- Eight Sleep – Sure you may not have heard of these guys, but they are the new entrant to the space blendingSmarttechnology and premium comfort
- Casper – The first entrant to the online mattress ordering. Excellent customer service and offerings here
- Leesa – One of the more expensive brands out there but also one of the top rated by blogs and reviewers alike
- Ghost Bedding – A catchy brand name doesn’t mean it’s the best, but you’ll find this brand has similar benefits to the others
- Keetsa – Based on organic and vegan materials, the Keetsa brand is a popular one, particularly for the apparent reason (being entirely natural)
Your next bed should be purchased online, but picking a brand to go with is one that will have to be made on judgment and other factors. Use the above as a guide, and you’ll be happy either way! After all, each brand offers an excellent return policy!
14: Cheap Online Car Insurance
Have a car, or two? Then you know how much expensive cars are. It’s one thing to pay the lease, finance charges, or repair. It’s another to spend Car Insurance. Car insurance is required to drive nationally, but that doesn’t mean you can shop around. Cheap car insurance comes in many forms, but before you say yes to the dress, excuse us, Cheap Car Insurance, you need to make sure you are adequately covered for the lifestyle you have.
Basic Cost Factors
Several factors go into your coverage. There a large variety of factors when it comes to car insurance, even good grades at school can get you a discount! Here are some others
- Distance You Drive Monthly
- The Car You Drive (Luxury vehicles cost more)
- Credit Score
- Previous Habits including accident history
- The State you live in
- Optional Coverages
It seems a bit unfair that if you live in a different state, you get charged more for insurance. But if the price is higher than you’d think, maybe you live in a State full of bad drivers.
Your best bet these days is not to buy from an agency. It sounds harsh if you know someone in the field of insurance, but by cutting out brick and mortar, you are saving a few dollars. You always have to ask yourself, “Can’t I just buy this online?” The truth is, car insurance online is easy to shop for, and going into an agency takes hours of your day, plus you might not even get the car insurance coverage or plan you want. Instead of going directly to a Car Insurance business like Geico or Liberty Insurance, go to a marketplace where you’ll get quotes given to you. Shift the gear, and make the insurance companies bid on your insurance!
- The Zebra
Don’t Drive Much? You’re in Luck!
If you have a single car, live in a city, or you don’t drive much at all. You are in a terrific position. Not only can you rent out your car through Turo or Getaround (with insurance included), but you can pay for your car insurance with Metromile. How it works is you install a device that tracks your mileage use, so you only pay coverage for what you drive!
15: Free Dating Online
So you are looking for your soulmate and don’t trust the whole going out and meeting someone at the bar or a pumpkin patch? Online dating indeed has turned the corner and arguably has become the norm when meeting someone special. Sites like Match.com and eHarmony have brought couples together even through marriage.
Paying for dating sites seems like an extra step, and commitment when it comes to online dating, but for some paying the fees aren’t necessary. Try these free online dating sites. Of course, be careful of any Catfish or potential issues that come with online dating!
You’ve probably heard of it, swipe left, swipe right. It’s free but comes with the tag of being strictly for hooking up. It’s a popular app, which many uses for dating also!
A popular choice for those in the cities of NYC or a Chicago. Venture outside of that, and it may become more challenging to find your soulmate due to its popularity.
Plenty of Fish
POF for sure, one of the original online dating sites is still around and producing long-term couples around the world.
Coffee Meets Bagel
A more user-friendly matchmaking service that isn’t so direct. You’ll be able to go out to lunch and see if there is any connection if not, no worries!
Another matchmaking app that made its rounds in the early 2010s but didn’t gain any steam until lately.
Bonus: Facebook Dating App?
Recently Mark Zuckerberg and team released a beta version of Facebook’s Dating extension that will help you find your soulmate or friend. Makes sense given the popularity of Facebook already and how many people have probably met already through the social network!
16: Stop Buying Apple Products
When it comes to keeping a tight budget, you tend to leave out things that you want to buy and play with. Things like cell phones and laptops often are purchased with a credit card and financed. A New Apple MacBook Pro could cost you around $2000, whereas a Windows-Based laptop could cost you close to half the price of that. As consumers, we get caught up in the pizzaz of owning an iPhone because our friends have them, or you buy a 60inch Ultra 4K TV when only a few channels display in 4K. Here are some alternatives that you might not have heard of when purchasing some high-end Apple Products!
Want an iPhone? Try these instead!
Yes, we know you love Apple, and yes Apple does sport one of, if not the best phones out there. However, Apple products should be considered a premium purchase. When you get a new cell phone contract you are not just paying for T-Mobile, for example, you are also financing your iPhone over TWO YEARS! This is not ideal for those with a tight budget, or those want to spend extra money on trips, going out to eat, or just plain old saving.
Instead of going with a brand new iPhone ($1000) try these:
- Google Pixel ($250-$699): Top of the line Android Phone with just as much power and inside guts than the latest iPhone has.
- OnePlus 6 ($499-$899): With even better guts than the typical iPhone, OnePlus is a great Android phone!
- Essential PH-1 ($200-$500): an Android founder started essential, it’s arguably prettier than the iPhone and has better insides
Tip: Buying used through a site like eBay could drastically cut your cell phone purchase by 50% or more. With eBay’s buyer protection, look for deals but also make sure your received product works as functioned. You have 30 days to test it out!
Want a MacBook Pro? Try these instead!
MacBook Pros are the standard when it comes to a pretty looking laptop. But you should know that buying these is a premium purchase. Getting them used is ideal, but even then you should know there are better, and even better-looking options out there! Here are a few you should consider!
- Razer Blade ($900-$2000): If you love gaming, but want the minimalistic look of a MacBook, Razer the perfect choice for you!
- Microsoft Surface ($500-$2500): If you dig something you can carry around, yet not sacrifice performance Microsoft has nailed this category
- Lenovo Yoga ($1000): The Yoga turns any laptop into a tablet by using its unique form factor.
Tip: Using OfferUp and eBay are great marketplaces to find such laptops, and you can even bargain with the seller. With OfferUp you’ll need to scrutinize each product because each sale is final thoroughly.
Want an iPad? You should stick with Apple!
Even today, iPads are unparalleled in the tablet space. No other brand has caught up to Apple in the category because of the smooth Operating System iPad sports, plus its one of Apples more affordable lines of electronics.
Want an Apple Watch? Try these instead!
Apple’s latest line of products includes their watch category. The Apple Watch is undoubtedly a premium product that will cost you around $200-$500 depending on the model. Smartwatches are still somewhat new and offer limited options. Depending on what you prefer as a smartwatch there are close competitors in the space.
- Fitbit Versa ($200) – If you want Fitness, Fitbit is the way to go, with loads of support and reputation of athletes everywhere.
- Misfit Phase ($75-$150) – If you like the traditional look of a watch, yet want to be notified of alerts like SMS or Email, Misfit (bought by Fossil) owns this space!
- Samsung Gear ($75-$200) – With decent inside guts Samsung has a few lines of products that may fit what you’d want. However, you’d need a Samsung product to pair with it though.
17: Budget for Coffee
For those who enjoy a cup or three of coffee in the morning and afternoon, if you’ve ever checked your bank account, you’ll find that coffee does take up a significant portion of food and beverage costs. If you are a heavy coffee drinker, you’ll be spending over $350 per year if you drink 2-3 cups a day. K Cups, for example, is about 30 Cents to 50 Cents per cup. Going with a traditional coffee maker, you may save a bit more. Here are some other ways to save on coffee.
Forget Getting Starbucks
It’s probably apparent to those with a budget conscious wallet, but getting Starbucks every weekday is expensive. A GrandeCoffee(NOT ESPRESSO) is about $2-$2.50. So $2.50 x 5 Days a week, four weeks a month and 12 months a year are $600!! Let’s not forget the fact that I didn’t include the price of Espresso drinks like Macchiatos or Lattes which are significantly higher in price. If there is one way of saving at Starbucks Coffee…it’s to get actual Coffee and Not Espresso!
Brewing at Home
Coffee brewed at home is the obvious money saver here, but there are still ways to save even on this method. For one, K Cups, as mentioned before are a bit pricier than the traditional coffee filtered ground coffee. You can go even further by buying coffee beans wholesale at a place like Boxed, BJ’s or Costco and grind them yourself.
Coffee Beans Wholesale can be found online as well. Check out sites like Slickdeals and type in Coffee. You’ll be surprised how often an e-commerce marketplace like eBay or Amazon posts coffee deals. Coffee is grown just like any other organic product, and there are surplus seasons. Check out Counter Culture’s Coffee seasonality map, showing when coffee is produced and how often!
Once You Go, Black…
Milk, Sugar, Creamer, Almond Milk, Chocolate, Vanilla, Cinnamon are all coffee add-ons and aren’t exactly necessary to get the whole experience of the caffeine that coffee providers. If you are getting milk and creamer and using it daily, you might end up spending more than a trip to Starbucks because, at that place, you’ll at least get Creamer and Milk included with your coffee. If you are going to add creamy substance to your coffee, make it something like milk where you’ll be utilizing it elsewhere in cooking. The same can be said about sugar!
18: Book Personal Storage Online
There haven’t been many directories for storage facilities that have made it to the front page of the news. But, working with similar interactions, you’d feel with something that of a Yelp, SpareFoot aims to fill the storage industries long-standing void.
There haven’t been many storage directories out there — one that perhaps is easy to use and navigate much as SpareFoot does. Plus, you’ll find pricing and reviews visible so that you know precisely the kind of deal(s) that would interest you.
Not everyone or business uses additional storage. It’s still a niche for many, but for those who do need storage which is a respectable number of people, SpareFoot fills the need surprisingly well.
Anyone can use this service to find the storage needs. Plus, sorting through the top reviewed spaces helps a user pinpoint not only customer service problems and successes but helps alleviate concern as well. Pricing and other sortable specifications include:
- Special Discounts
- 24 Hour Availability
- Climate Control
- and a few others
Realtors, Consolidators, or a few other professionals might want to take notice of this type of app. You can refer others to this service for the ease of use along with proximity to a location of a potential house for a realtor, for example. Try out Sparefoot today!
19: Remember the Entertainment Book?
For those who were born before the 2000s, you may not remember how a family typically saved when going out to eat or going out for fun. Before Groupon or LivingSocial, you could say the 80’s-90’s comparison would be the Entertainment Coupon Book.
Entertainment, the company behind the coupon book work(ed) much like Groupon, they’d often recruit deals from merchants and travel sites to get you extreme savings, should you end up purchasing their Entertainment Coupon book for a small fee.
These coupon books were often specific to a local area, going as far as your local town. Yes, you’ll find deals for Redwood City California, to a small town like Marlton New Jersey. Representatives were fairly aggressive in getting deals for each potential customer, thus the popularity of these books in the 1990s.
Coupons Still Relevant Today!
As you are probably aware, coupons or promo codes are still well alive and kicking these days, just more popular in a different format: Digital. Sure you can print out the Groupon deal you purchased but can you remember the last time you had something in your hand and handed it to a cashier or waitress? (not at the grocery store)
You can find a vast array of digital coupons on these websites:
Printed Coupons Still Work Well
The discounts that something like the Entertainment Coupon Book provides is significant when it comes to eating out or shopping. You’ll still find discounts up to 205-50% on popular places you’d probably end up shopping at. Plus there are many other coupons for free movie tickets and free mini golf rounds in these types of books.
For a small price of $8-$ ten these coupon books are well worth the price, and if you like spending time out of the house with your family or going out, the Entertainment Coupon Book is worth a look.
As it turns out, we have a great deal on this book right now!
Enter Code EXTRA25 and Get the Entertainment Coupon Book for $8!!
Looking for a Coupon Book Alternative?
There are a few other printed coupon books around out there. One major one we’ve found to be of great use is the Save Around Coupon Book found at many school fundraisers. You’ll find similar local discounts including restaurants and entertainment activities as well. Plus, they have a unique Android and iOS app that will help benefit you on the road without the book in hand!
20: Browser Extensions
Before there were Chrome Extensions (Plugins), there were Toolbars. These pesky add-ons were often too resourceful and added much loading time to your internet browsing. Remember the AOL Toolbar or the Internet Explorer Yahoo Add-On Explorer?
Today, adding extensions for your online shopping experience can save you bundles of cash in places you never thought to look. Let’s take a look at some of them:
GoodSearch, the marketplace that gives back portions of their revenue, offers up their extension in the form of automatic couponing. Add the extension and shop where you typically would. If there is a coupon, you will be notified of the purchase.
Much like Gumdrop, Honey is the alternative. Once in the shopping cart of an applicable shop, Honey will scan for coupons available. The bonus here, in some cases, you’ll earn cash back on purchases.
Unlike the two previous extensions, Butterfly Saves focuses primarily on cash back rather than coupons. Once on an applicable store, you’ll be prompted a cashback rate for your prospective purchases.
Tag items you want to buy now or later all in one place. Want an article of clothing, but it’s not in stock? Shoptagr allows you to tag an item out of stock and alert you when it becomes back in stock!
Another automatic coupon extension, but complete with their coupon website as well. If you like to switch browsers, Guru could be a great option
With the growth of popularity of the Honey extension, RetailMeNot has entered this landscape as a top competitor of theirs. With this add-on, it’ll work much like JoinHoney but with the gigantic coupon and promo code database that RetailMeNot has accumulated.
21: Travel Hacks
If you have time and are looking for a flight on a budget, your options are quite limited. Luckily, there is Kiwi.com, a unique and beautiful flight finder to make your inner explorer go wild.
Kiwi.com will automatically find the nearest airports near you and see popular destinations at low cost. But, if you are looking for a flight to exotic locations, it will scan for connecting flights at the lowest price. We have used a few flight booking apps in the past, but this one sports the best interface you can find.
Check out what it looks like below. We used a very random flight destination from the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area to the Halifax, Canada area. A one-way booking price of nearly $140 was displayed rather quickly. (Crazy, eh?!)
The price above is for one passenger. However, you’ll note there are times attached to the options you select. If you want to TravelGo, you might see a significant price change as opposed to the shortest route.
We Booked via Kiwi and Customer Service Was Awesome!
We booked through Kiwi and booked a Frontier Airlines flight to Las Vegas earlier this year and was instantly given information on how to bring bags, pay for extra services and more. So no need to worry about specific airline bookings!
Try These Travel Hacking Sites!
Thrifty Traveler, a website started by an accountant, has fantastic flight deals that and if you are an avid traveler, could end up saving you thousands of dollars without much effort. It seems that they find the best deals for the day, or week and post them often. You’ll find other tips on how to save on specific airlines, or what to travel with to save some time.

Delayed Flight? Try This!
If you’ve ever been delayed on a flight, you know the anxiety and boredom that awaits your boarding process. Your trip may be booked with more passengers on standby due to the delay, or keep you so bored that you’ll spend more money at the shops and the restaurants inside your terminal. Either way, being delayed is never a pleasant experience. One app is looking to capitalize on your misfortune by negotiating vouchers and partial refunds for your delayed flight.
No Need to Yell
The poor customer service reps handling the ticket counter at your gate probably have dealt with customers on an hourly basis complaining about their delayed flights. Don’t take it out on them. Perhaps, being extra nice could help yield more benefits like upgrades on your seating and free drinks. Customer service reps are best for getting you a connection or rebooked flight at the gate, not for refunds.
Use the “Service” App to get Your Refund!
If you’ve waited 2 hours for your delayed flight, there may be some silver lining. The app Service will look into your flight. All you have to do is signup, enter your flight information, and they’ll see what kind of refund you can get. There are three possible memberships for Service (this is how they make money):
- They’ll take 30% of your potential refund
- or $49 per year and you get 100% of your refund(s)
- $199 for the lifetime of the app (Keep 100% of refunds and no yearly membership)
Most People Don’t Get Refunds!
Weather, mechanical issues, or other issues are bound to happen if you have booked on a favorite airline. In some cases, the airline will admit and give you vouchers for their failed flight departure time. However, when it comes to monetizing or getting a refund, most people don’t know about an app like Service!
22: Hidden Cell Phone Perks
Ever since cell phones have been around, there have been significant carriers that have provided talk, text, and or data. With the competition ramping up and customers loyalty in the air, the competition of staying with these carriers have introduced several new perks and benefits.
Though you can argue that call quality of this carrier, there’s no doubt they offer some pretty neat perks!
- Free 6-month The Music Service Tidal
- Hulu (Limited Commercial Plan) for as long as you keep your account active!
- NBA Game Time App Access
- Unlimited International Texting
Recently, Verizon has introduced their brand spanking new rewards program called VerizonUp. For every $300 you spend on your cell phone bill, you earn a credit. These credits can be redeemed for:
- Movie Tickets
- NFL (Football) Tickets
- Device Dollars (Next Device Credit)
- Concert Tickets
- Local Offers and Discounts
The most aggressive carrier when it comes to rewards:
- Netflix when you sign up 2 or more lines
- Video and Music Related Data is Included
- T-Mobile Tuesday Rewards (Discounts on Gas, Free Movie Tickets, and Food)
- Free Texting on GoGo Enabled Flights
- MLB At Bat ($20 Value)
Keeping up with other significant carriers AT&T does an excellent job to keep relevancy. They offer some unique benefits like access to thousands of Wireless HotSpots at no extra cost, Zero Down on popular devices, and they now introduced their rewards program AT&TThanks. Perks from this app include:
- Pre-Sales Concert Tickets
- Buy One Get One Free Movie Ticket Tuesdays
- Deals on Local Dining
- Same Day Delivery on Select Shopping
- Special Event Access
What About the Others (Virgin, Mint Mobile, Cricket, etc.)?
Surprisingly, these companies did not make our list since we couldn’t quite locate an actual rewards or perks program. Cricket used to have two recent rewards programs (AddItUp and Cricket Rewards) but shut them down, possibly due to a revenue loss of sorts. We expect that other companies could enter the perks game at any moment given since the competition is always stepping up!
23: Save 5 Cents on Every Gallon of Gas
You can save just by being loyal to one gas brand. Sure, you can take credit card offers that save you on gas, but outside of fuel, most of the cards provide little additional perks. Shell seems to have an answer with their loyalty program, Fuel Rewards. Sign up, and automatically save 5 cents on every single gallon you purchase through Shell. Yes, it is that simple. The benefits of this type of loyalty program are that you don’t need to accumulate points, unlike the way Plenti Rewards works.

Shell offers many locations and options to boost your Fuel Rewards savings, but for many, there may not be enough to utilize the program. There are other options abound!
