Remember the days when you had to wait in line to buy stuff. Ok, sure we still have Walmart where there’s a line to buy a pack of gum, but you know what I mean. Online shopping is the number one place to find deals and products you want these days. With so many options for shopping, and that includes shopping with the right credit cardit’s hard to pick essential apps that will save you time and money. MoneyHax is on the case!
One day, a pair of Nike Shoes will be $50, the next $100, or vice versa. Luckily, if you were the sucker who spent $100 on those shoes, you can get your $50 back! Yep, now you can live without buyer’s remorse!
We’ve found a few apps that unlock hidden shopping benefits like Automatic Cash Back, Robot Cable Bill Negotiation, and a few other neat ones. Well, here’s a new one:Unlocking a VERY Underutilized Credit Card Benefit: Price Change Protection
With shopping holidays like Black Friday, Single’s Day, Memorial Day Sales and much more, prices go up…and they go down like a Skiier on a mountain. Finding the right price for a product you want or need is never a static thing. What Price Change protection does is help you get money back should a price on an item you bought go down. You’ll get credited with the difference! Lots of people don’t utilize this benefit because, well, it’s pretty f#^%in confusing and hard actually to redeem.
Paribus, the company now backed by Capital One was the first to dip their toes into this field. Now there are several stronger suited partners we certainly recommend as well!
What is the Paribus App?
Paribus represents a key way for users to get price change refunds. Depending on the price change policy, you’ll have adequate time to receive a price change refund. Hook up your email account to Paribus, and it will then scan through your email to find receipts and product purchase confirmation letters. Just be sure to keep those emails in your inbox.
Think of Paribus as your hands-free price matching app that will monitor changes for you!
Does it protect my information?
Paribus has worked very hard to make sure that the information(see link) that they collect is safe for you. They do require a credit card eventually, but that is to pay for the refund fees back to Paribus. Also, the company is now backed by Capital One, you know, the big financial company.
Price Drop Examples on the dashboard
Once logged into the Paribus dashboard, you’ll see all of the fantastic price drops that have been rewarded by other users. See the example below.
How will I be notified of changes and how long from a purchase do I have to see a possible refund?
It depends on the merchant. Many offer different periods up to 3 months from your initial purchase to be eligible for a price change refund! Amazon recently has changed their price match policy to seven days.
How does Paribus make money?
Paribus has informed us that it is now completely FREE since being acquired by Capital One.
If you are the kind of person who buys a lot of product online, you should consider Paribus. It could be the money hack you’ve been dreaming about! Combine the cable bill negotiator Trim, along with Paribus, and you’ll be saving money in no time!
Shopping online has become the number one place to spend money these days. Looking for ways to save more online is something online shoppers have become accustomed to. From searching multiple coupon sites, going to cash back rebate sites, and using smart apps to help them find deals, there will always be new ways to save online. After all the searching we’ve done thus far, we’ve seen several apps that will help you, almost automatically, save money!
How to Use Paribus, Sift, and Earny
There are some rules to using this app for it to work to it’s fullest potential.
1: You Need a Credit Card with Price Protection
These apps do an excellent job cutting through the bullsh%@ by letting you know right away, that you need a Credit Card (not Debit Card) that has the benefit of Price Protection. Many cards do offer it, but you’d be surprised at the ones that do notoffer it, and perhaps for a good reason. Amazon’s Visa Signature Rewards card, for example, doesnot have long-term benefit and as many can guess Amazon changes their product pricing almost every day.
Want to know of some Credit Cards with Price Change Protection?
- Barclaycard Arrival Plus(we also took a Free Vacation with this card…this card is legit!)
- All Citi Bank Credit Cards
- Capital One Savor Card (offers 4% back on dining!)
- Many others!!
The cards above are pretty great options, but some may require decent credit ratings to acquire them. We recommend you check your Credit Card Benefits or Customer Service to see if your card has this benefit to continue using these refund based apps.
2: Use the Card for Online Shopping
Comes as no surprise that to get Price Change Refunds you’ll need to buy with the card that has this benefit. If you don’t, it’s hard to say if you’ll be eligible for a price change difference. 🙁
A nice feature of Paribus and Sift is that you can technically add pretty much any credit card, with or without this benefit and it’ll lay out the card’s benefits for you anyways.
3: Signing Up
We forgot to tell you, that you need to sign up for these apps to get easy Price Change Refunds! It’s easy as cake to sign up, as you’ll need:
- Primary Shopping Email Address (scans digital receipts)
- Amazon Account Email and Password (to scan price changes)
4: Notifications of Price Changes
While you should sign up for Sift quickly to get the latest info on Price Changes, depending on the card you have, you might be protected up to several months and Sift would still work within that range. Some only have the benefit of price changes for several days making the app an important install if you want price changes immediately!
When Sift does find a price change opportunity, you’ll be notified via Email or through the app. (Yes, it’s available on both iOS and Android)
5: Take Action on the Refund
If you meet the following, you can set up your refund process immediately and get the money as soon as seven days!
- Used the Right Credit Card with Price Protection
- Use Sift to Take Action on the Refund within Allotted Time Frame
Once you’ve gone to the app, saw the potential price drop, you could be eligible for that difference! It’s that easy, and you now know how to utilize the Sift app!

Sift Wallet App
Sift Wallet is a newer app that will sync up with your email account and your credit card to find and give you Price Change Protection and Refunds EASY! Be gone pesky paperwork and robot facing customer support! With Sift it’s so easy even a cave dweller
, a gecko, office linebacker or a dufus can do it. Yes, it’s like having free money put back into your account much like looking under the pillow and finding a dollar…but a lot less painful.
So Earny is a price change refund negotiator that will scan your receipts via email and find potential products that have had price drops. What that means is if you purchased a TV for example and days later after your purchase, the price went down, even more, Earny will fight to get you the price change difference! Lots of people don’t even know that you can be protected from price changes like this, but Earny’s mission is to let you know it’s possible…and very easy to do!
How Earny Works
You’ll need to sign up and link your Earny App to your primary Email address; then they’ll scan previous purchases. Depending on where you’ve bought your product you can be protected from 7 through 120 days! Credit Cards like Barclay’s Arrival defend you up to 120 days, whereas some do not protect you at all! Earny does a good job letting you know which cards are applicable for extended price change protection so no need to worry!
Your Price Change Refund Potential Can Add Up!
We’ve received multiple emails where we could claim up to $80. And it’s not the only month where we’ve gotten this claim, so potentially there are a lot of savings to be had with Earny!
Is Earny Safe?
We recently posted about apps and their security ratings. Earny is a safe service, not a scam at all, but you’ll still give out your email address, and therefore we rated it a 9 out of 10 regarding safety. There’s always risk involved with many things in life, but the reward here is constant savings!
Added Hotel Protection
Recently, Earny has added Hotel Price Change Protection. Meaning they’ll monitor your hotel bookings and see if the price goes down. If it does, you may be eligible for a refund!
Ever notice a car rental reservation always seems to change price over the course of a week? Travel definitely depends on price changing for more revenue. Luckily your car rental reservation could be price protected by Autoslash. They’ll need many details about your trip including:
- Car Rental Service
- Make and Model (if you have it)
- Reservation Number
Supply Autoslash with as much information as you can so they can track price changes and get you the best rate.
Hotel reservations are also prone to price changes over time. And now there is a service for that as well! Pruvo acts as your new booking agent for your hotel reservation and will re-book your room if there is a new lower price available. How it works:
- Send Pruvo Hotel Confirmation via Email
- No Credit Card Needed
- They’ll Notify if there is a New Reservation at Lower Price via their Hotel Price Tracking Software
- Re-book through Pruvo
Because there is no credit card needed and just a forwarded email could save you hundreds of dollars for your stay, making Pruvo a nice companion for travel savings. Looking for the right email to forward to? Since we’ve partnered up with them, you can forward reservations to Booking@MoneyHax.com! Side Note: You’ll need to book a hotel directly through a provider like Hilton or Marriott, rather than Priceline.
Is Paribus, Earny, or Sift Safe?
Like most of the apps we publish here, Security is a primary focus of apps in the Financial Technology (Fintech) space. Sift is no exception as they are fully committed and transparent about how they protect your information. For example, they do not collect passwords of your email address, and they use bank-level security certificates to guard any sensitive information.
In other words, you are likely safe with this app (and the other apps we publish!). For any concerns you can always reach out to Sift Wallet directly:
On their Security Page: https://siftwallet.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115009675367-What-about-my-privacy-and-security-
No matter which Paribus minded-app you choose here, these are scam-free and legit options to earn some money back on stuff you bought. It’s a rarely used credit card benefit, and we think Sift Wallet, the newest addition to this group, has won us over!
