You’ll be happy to learn that earning cash back, loyalty points, and rewards can be received in many ways. One of the surprising and new techniques is to link your credit or debit card to specific apps. It’s as simple as downloading the app, entering in a specific credit card you would like to combine use with the app and find new opportunity to save.
Most of these apps are backed by Plaid, the security company behind Citi Bank, Venmo, American Express, and other highly respected financial companies (your info is safe).
Here are the 7 apps we think will be in every shopper’s pocket soon enough
One of the more popular apps in this space, DOSH will link your credit card and give you instant cash back options locally and online. Once you’ve linked your card you are automatically eligible to receive cash back at let’s say Exxon/Mobil gas stations. You fill up there with the linked card. If Exxon/Mobil is on the DOSH app, you’ll receive the cash back rate through the app. DOSH continually adds merchants like these to its app and it a simple way to earn extra money (paid out via PayPal)
This app has been recently released and offers a hands-off approach to earning points. Link your primary credit/debit card and earn points when you spend on merchants like Walgreens, Chipotle, or Target (few others). You’ll need to select 5 merchants you will spend the most with and have only one time to do this! You can still earn points through online merchants and offers. Soon you can redeem points for gift cards at places like Starbucks.
Another fun way to earn more points is to play their game where it’s similar to the game Snake, make one point for each thing you eat with your Snake!
3: Groupon +
Is this the future of Groupon (waving over our magic ball)? You are now able to link your card to Groupon, and earn cash back for dining at specific restaurants in your area. Avoid taking out embarrassing Groupons when you are about to tip your waiter or waitress. Once you’ve spent money at the linked restaurant, you’ll receive Cash Back on your card’s statement.
Probably the most ambitious competitor to DOSH would be SPENT. In addition to the card linking cash back, SPENT adds the ability to track receipts and expenses as well and DOSH but with budgeting as well. Keep receipts and expenses stored in the SPENT app and earn an additional 1% back at places like Amazon, Starbucks, Walgreens, and other popular merchants. No need to lock your preferred merchants in like Drop does. So consider this a nice middle choice to Drop and DOSH.
Remember Sears, the popular mall anchor store? Shop Your Way is owned by them and maybe their last leg of existence. It’s foreseeable that Shop Your Way will eventually become the Sears Online Shopping portal. While there aren’t many card linked opportunities there is a way you can earn $2 in points for EVERY UBER RIDE YOU TAKE! Then again, the points are only redeemable through the shop Your Way portal which offers Sears products. Yay Everlast Punching Bag and a Bag of Screwdrivers?
The famous review website, Yelp, has released new card-linked cash back feature allows you to try out new restaurants while also earning money back. We’ll save you the time and point you back to Groupon Plus…it’s nearly the exact same thing but through the Yelp app!
7: Fuel Rewards
Some apps allow you to save on every gallon of gas, and Fuel Rewards is a part of it. You can link your Visa, or Mastercard (Earn more if it’s a Mastercard) and earn an automatic 5c off each gallon at Shell gas stations as a start. You can boost per gallon savings by shopping on the Fuel Rewards website, or by referring friends to the Fuel Rewards program!
