No matter the financial situation, people tend to struggle with their budget, often being drawn into luxury items and overspending. For many, living paycheck to paycheck requires a strict budget whereas for those who have built a larger net worth still struggle to find the best ways to optimize.
The best app that includes budgeting and net worth integrations may just be Personal Capital, the premium alternative to the Mint App.
What is Personal Capital?
If we were talking years ago, the most widely used a few budgeting apps were like Mint. You’d sync up your bank accounts and have a summary of what you could spend, invest, or pay down to get rid of debt.
While Mint is still a solid option for many, if you plan on investing more, budgeting more, or just managing your money without a ton of advertisements, which Mint now has, you might want to consider the Personal Capital service.
Wealth Management 101
For those who purely lack the time or would rather not deal with people directly, Personal Capital has what is also known as Wealth Management software. They’ll take your investments, or your financial goals and make it easy for you to understand in lamens terms. Things that are made easy:
- Taking the Guesswork out of Retirement
- Calculator College Costs for Your Children
- Plan for those Financial Emergencies and “What-Ifs”
Using the Personal Capital App
Available on any device including iOS, Android, and PC…and even the Smartwatches, you’ll be able to sync up bank accounts and investing seamlessly. Because Personal Capital is relentless on who they can actually sync up with, it’s one of the better apps for money management no matter the size of your net worth.
See how we synced up our accounts including our Prosper Marketplace, Ally Bank and a few others!!
Personal Capital’s Personal Touch (Financial Advisors)
The company is called Personal Capital so the app wouldn’t be complete without some sort of human interaction. The app employs actual Certified Financial Planners (CFPs) to help get your feet wet with the app, along with guided advice on how to further optimize your account such as:
- Personalize Portfolio Management
- Fiduciary Advice
- Full Financial Planning
What is the Price (Cost) of Personal Capital?
According to the app itself, the dashboard and the accounts you sync with the app is free of charge, but once you have financial advice, and further management past $100,000 you’ll then enter a tiered charge chart that includes:
- First $1 million: 0.89%
- First $3 million: 0.79%
- Next $2 million: 0.69%
- Next $5 million: 0.59%
- Over $10 million: 0.49%
The annual fee / cost is billed monthly in arrears.
Is the Personal Capital App Safe?
Absolutely! The apps we publish here have very little chance to be hacked or otherwise noted. And NO this is not a Scam (see our Sidebar)!
Although there is always a risk in syncing your bank accounts and other personal information, it’s very rare for a larger company like Personal Capital (or any app we publish) to lose your information. Even if such a rare event would exist, the liability may rest with the given service.
What if I don’t have that much money?
In our opinion, you may be better off with some other budgeting apps out there. Although Personal Capital is Free, the fact remains that you’ll be distracted from other financial goals, depending on what you feel is best. Here are some good alternatives to the app:
Mint is one of the original budgeting and money management software to ever hit the internet. With its ability to sync different bank accounts and loans, you’ll be able to easily pay off debt or just view your money as you’ve never done before. Great for beginners and yes, it’s free! The downside is that there are a bunch of ads on the service now since it’s been acquired by Intuit. You may recognize the Intuit brand from other services like Quickbooks!
Quickbooks apparently is a great booking company, so you know they would only invest in the very best of options.
You Need a Budget is an app that offers a full variety of bank syncing options while also making it super easy to navigate a budget in a user-friendly way. Although it’s $7 per month, we still believe that this app can be used for most families getting their finances organized.
Personal Capital Affiliate Program
Looking for the Affiliate Program of Personal Capital? Good luck trying to find it! Ok, ok we’ll clue you in on where to find it. But first there’s a few rules about the program that might deter you from promoting it.
- Try PersonalCapital.HasOffers.com to Find the Affiliate Application
- Alternatively use FlexOffers to Apply for it Quicker
- Pays Handsomeley for a Sign Up
- BUT and here’s the big exception: Each Account Must Reach $100,000 in Net Worth
Hmm, yeah that’s a tougher sell to the app because not many people have that much net worth. Kind in mind, from our experience those who do well with this kind of Affiliate Program have an audience with a higher net worth…think Blogger Physicians and Lawyers.
