Target Audience:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate students, recent graduates with no work experience who plan to start careers in Big-4 valuation departments or investment boutiques
  • Employees in finance departments of industry companies who plan to expand their knowledge of modeling and valuation issues

Course Schedule:

Module 1 (4 hours).
Overview of the financial sector. Fundamentals of preparing financial models in MS Excel. Assessing the investment appeal of projects. Fundamentals of compiling an investment portfolio. Calculation of IRR and NPV as basic methods of decision-making. The CAPM model.

Module 2 (8 hours)
Analysis of three forms of financial statements: Profit and Loss Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement.

Module 3 (11 hours)
Modeling and forecasting in MS Excel three forms of financial statements on the example of the selected company.

Module 4 (6 hours)
Calculation of ‘EV to Equity Value Bridge’. Basic adjustments used in calculating the value of a business. An overview of the main approaches to business valuation. The market multiples method. The method of historical transactions. Calculation of multiples in MS Excel.

Module 5 (3 hours)
Discounted cash flow analysis (DCF) and discounted dividend model (DDM). WACC calculation methodology. Valuation of companies by DCF method in MS Excel using Russian consumer sector company as an example.

Module 6 (4 hours)
Basics of preparing presentation materials on a deal in MS PowerPoint. Systematization of approaches to valuation of the business and formation of a recommendation for the company. Building a Football Field in MS Excel.

Module 7 (8 hours)
Equity Capital Markets (ECM). Debt capital markets (DCM). Derivatives markets.
